Cosmo Baker Presents – Episode 1

Good morning y’all and today I’m super proud to release my brand new mix series, “Cosmo Baker Presents” on the new Mixcloud Select program. This is a project that I’ve been wanting to do for a long time now and I’m overjoyed that it finally has a proper home and a great media partner in Mixcloud. There’s been a few different incarnations of this idea that I’ve played around with over the past decade of so (my Top Ten Mix, the Baker’s Dozen series etc) but now with #CBPresents its fully fleshed our and realized. Ultimately what I wanted to do with this series is to have a platform where I could present to my listeners all the amazing new music that I find from around the globe. So much of this great material doesn’t get the amplification that it deserves, whether that being because it’s getting more and more difficult to break new records in a club environment, or because of the tremendous amount of material that’s saturating the market, or because people are more dependent on algorithms these days, or simply because it just slipped through the cracks. For the better part of 3 decades I’ve dedicated myself to exposing my friends to sounds that love me, and that deserve to be heard, from across the spectrum! This is a true labor of love for me and I’m more than psyched to give this to you. On top of sharing the music part of the idea is to share the stories behind the music, so we’ll be taking a closer look at records, artists and music scenes that are making waves. So expect a lot of new stuff, some rediscoveries, exclusive content, interviews, guest sets and more. To be honest this whole show is pretty much inspired by the late great John Peel so with Cosmo Baker Presents I’m trying to do my version of The Peel Sessions… also as part of the Mixcloud Select program it’s designed to bring the listeners – y’all – closer to us creators, both me and the artists that I present! Okay with that in mind I’m more than excited to present my first episode, featuring new music by GoldLink, Lizzo, Anderson .Paak, Kid Sister, Kaytranada, Talk Black Guy, Little Simz, A-Trak, Black Thought and more. And we’ll take a very special look at Sault – an incredible new band from out of the UK, and the story, the mystery, and the movement behind them. Let’s get ready for liftoff! Link in the bio!

Hidden Gems Podcast

I had the pleasure of sitting down to be interviewed with my homies Jabair, Love City DJs and 3XPO a few weeks ago before their monthly installment of the Hidden Gems “open aux” party and it was a great time. On the interview we talked about everything from show prep, taking risks as a DJ, a few classic digging stories and much more. Tune in and check out the podcast today. And later on that evening I did a guest set for their party and that mix will be up soon!

New Birthday Broadcast Mix – Happy Birthday Sade

I woke up yesterday to the news that it was the birthday of the mighty Helen Folasade Adu, universally know as the incomparable Sade. My timeline was flooded love and admiration for someone who’s music I not only grew up but also accompanied me through my life at the times I needed it most. There’s a timeless quality to her music, that has spanned decades and still sounds as fresh as it did when it was released decades ago.

The love that I saw from everyone inspired me to want to do an impromptu live mix in tribute to one of the QUEENS. So I threw together of some of my favorite Sade songs, including special remixes, edits, deep gems, covers and more. Nothing crazy expansive, just things that resonated with me and that I love. My goodness, she has so many incredible songs! Yesterday I broadcasted live from THE DOJO (AKA my home studio) on Facebook Live and Instagram Live and tons of people tuned it – it was like a Sade party in everyone’s living room. And the best thing is that I recorded it. So here I am pleased to present, Cosmo Baker’s Birthday Broadcast January 2019: “Happy Birthday Sade” on my Mixcloud. As an aside, I have some very exciting news to share about my Mixcloud!

Lastly, I had been playing around with this idea for years about a special tribute series to certain legendary artists that have affected me throughout my life, a certain “Gold Standard” which was the working title I’d been running with since I first mentioned the idea years ago to my dear friend the late, great Matthew Africa. But the Sade mix yesterday impacted me in an unexpected way. For too many great artists, we don’t give them the recognition they deserve while they are still here on this planet. So often it takes their moving on for us to shower them with our love. But yesterday we were celebrating THE BIRTH of one of the greatest artists this civilization has even known. So it hit me – let’s celebrate the birth of these legends. Which is why I’m excited to announce my new series, BIRTHDAY BROADCAST.

Once a month for the entire year of 2019 I will be doing a live tribute mix for some of my favorite living creators, with an accompanying set on Mixcloud, done in celebration! The next date of my BIRTHDAY BROADCAST will be in mid February, and I will announce who it is leading up to the event. I have this entire thing mapped out throughout the year, and am so excited to share it with you all. Can’t wait!!!

For now, here you go with “Happy Birthday Sade”!
