Songs We Listened To A Lot In 2016

Songs We Listened To A Lot In 2016 by Skratch Bastid & Cosmo Baker

Once again back it’s the incredible. You already know what it is. We hope. This being our 5th one, and with a title like that, do we really need to tell you what it is? SWLTALI is a series we have grown to look forward to annually. A mix that tells the story of our musical experience ver the past year. New stuff, older stuff; just great music that we played, loved, revisited, shared, and are now sharing again in the form of this carefully curated and mixed 2 hours and 31 minutes. We hope you enjoy these tunes as much as we do, and if you like an artist’s music contained within, find a way to support them.

It seemed that in 2016 (into 2017) there were times when the world seemed to be on the brink of collapsing upon itself, and everything was enveloped in darkness. It’s times like these that we need music the most. Music will help us see our way through that darkness and into the light.

And that’s about it. Push play, and let it ride…

New Mix – WKDU 91.7 FM 2016 Electronic Music Marathon

Each year, WKDU 91.7 FM  holds a 72+ hour mix show marathon to raise money for a partner charity as well as to raise funds for the radio station and this year the charity was for PAWS – the Philadelphia Animal Welfare Society. I was so happy and honored to have been able to play a role in supporting such a worthy cause for the second year in a row. Thanks to all the hard work of the entire WKDU Philadelphia 91.7FM staff, especially Chris Burrell as well as all the listeners, DJs, donors and supporters for the #2016EMM This year raised $2500 which is enough money to help take care of 100 rescued animals until they find their forever homes – and gave us an opportunity to present them with a BIG ASS CHECK.

I was honored to have been able to play a set for the marathon and here it is for your listening enjoyment. Most of the stuff that I played here in this set is like the kinda stuff that I’m playing these days. I love this stuff.

Philly Voice Interview

Cosmo Baker is in a special class of DJs. Along with luminaries like DJ Jazzy Jeff, Rich Medina and King Britt, Baker is one of those elite, internationally respected Philly DJs who traverses the globe, spinning tasteful, soulful music for packed dance floors year-round.

For the past 20 years, Baker has melded his deep knowledge of music and party-rocking instincts with a keen business sense that has led to his current role as director at the Philly branch of Scratch DJ Academy. I caught up with Baker at Scratch’s Old City headquarters to chat about the music, the business and WKDU’s upcoming Electronic Music Marathon, which he and dozens of other DJs — myself included — are participating in.
